What We Know
If you follow menswear, you've undoubtedly encountered Nolan Daniel White—the Montreal-based consultant who is behind your favorite menswear account's favorite menswear account. He has built his career mostly within the fashion industry, but as it turns out, he's also a vintage watch enthusiast, which is why his latest collaboration is of the horological variety. This week, White has announced a limited collaboration with Copenhagen-based design studio TAWC, producing just 25 pieces of the TAWC x NDW Ref. 1677 925.

White drew inspiration from vintage Art Deco aesthetics, starting with a solid sterling silver case—a natural choice given TAWC's Danish heritage and the region's rich silversmithing history. The 37mm diameter strikes an ideal balance for contemporary wrists, while the 10mm height ensures a comfortable, low-profile fit.
The centerpiece is a dial inspired by a rare double-signed Patek Philippe piece. As White explains: "Referencing a possibly unique double-signed Patek Philippe dial, we wanted to introduce some depth and intrigue to the otherwise simple 1677 form factor. We played around with different minute track proportions, numeral appliqués, and finishing techniques before finally landing on what you see today: a contemporary Art Deco dial with both radial and linear brushed finishes, precise subdivided minute markers, and sharp applied Roman numerals that maximize legibility."

The Roman numerals integrate seamlessly into the subdivided minute track, creating visual harmony that honors the Art Deco movement's geometric principles. Powering the watch is the Cal. VH-31 movement.
The TAWC x NDW Ref. 1677 925 will be released on September 1 at 12:00 PM EST in a very limited edition of 25 pieces and will retail for $925.
What We Think
This watch is well-executed, and it's clear White knows his stuff, both in terms of design and choosing the right partner to collaborate with. The dimensions are spot-on—and while I would typically stray from anything that borders Art Deco, I find myself drawn to this piece for two key reasons. First, the sterling silver is a lovely addition that will likely develop a beautiful patina over time.

Most impressive for me, though, is the dial execution. Art Deco-inspired watches could easily fall into contrived, but the subdivided minute track and applied Roman numerals feel genuinely considered rather than merely decorative. With only 25 pieces available and given White's devoted following and reputation, this release is likely to sell out quickly. Could we see more from White in the watch department? I suppose it will depend if he can find more inspiration and time for the effort involved, but he's off to a great start.
