IntroducingThe New Tudor Royal 28mm: In Blue And With Diamonds

A sparkling new addition to the Royal line.

What We Know

Tudor has introduced two new variants to its Royal collection, featuring a blue dial adorned with diamonds in both steel and steel/yellow gold configurations. This latest addition to the Tudor Royal comes in collaboration with Tudor Brand Ambassador and renowned Chinese actor Cheng Yi.

The 28mm case, rendered in 316L stainless steel with a combination of polished and satin finishes, provides the foundation for the watch. The blue dial draws on a classic appeal, enhanced by diamond-set applied Roman numeral hour markers that complement the Royal motif. Beyond the dial, the surrounding bezel is set with diamonds to add luxurious flair not seen on most Tudor models.

At the heart of the new Tudor Royal beats the T201 self-winding mechanical movement. Based on the ETA 2671, the movement measures 17.5mm in diameter and 4.8mm thick. This 25-jewel caliber operates at a frequency of 28,800 beats per hour and provides approximately 38 hours of power reserve.

As was the case when Tudor Royal watches were introduced in 2020, these new models feature an integrated five-link bracelet that completes the integrated bracelet look that is the foundation of the design. Available in either full stainless steel or with alternating stainless steel and yellow gold links, the models cost $4,225 in stainless steel and $5,900 in yellow gold and are available now.

What We Think

The Tudor Royal collection occupies an interesting position in Tudor's lineup. While certainly not among the first few model lines that come to mind when thinking of Tudor, I appreciate that the brand continues to iterate on this collection. And while blue isn't new to the Royal line, I find the addition of diamonds quite elegant, truly living up to the 'sport-chic' billing that Tudor promotes.

Speaking of blue, it has appeared on Royal models before, and diamonds have been featured as well, but blue and diamonds haven't been combined until now. It makes for a strong, if conventional, pairing and a subtle evolution of the Royal's lineup.

However, I have always found the "half III" at 3 o'clock somewhat confusing. While I understand the design intent, I would have preferred its exclusion from this particular dial. On a watch that chose to replace eight Roman numerals with diamonds, the truncated III feels discordant to me. I know this detail has appeared on Royals before—in fact, it's rare when it's not there—but especially on a 28mm case, it feels unnecessary.
